Settings

Open Settings with the gear in the toolbar (⌘, on the Mac). They apply to every document.

Setting What it does
Use Metric System (km) Kilometres, metres and km/h when on; miles, feet and mph when off. Splits follow: per km or per mi.
Map Style Standard, Satellite or Hybrid for the next file (the toolbar’s Map Style menu changes it too).
Show My Location Shows where you are on the map. The first time, the system asks for permission.
Visualization Mode Effort colours the track by grade, Gradient by elevation. See the map.
Show Elevation Chart by Default Whether the chart is open when a file opens.
Show Route Info by Default Whether the route card is open when a file opens.
Track Line Width The thickness of the track on the map, 2 to 10.
Chart Data Density How many points the chart draws, from Low to High. Lower it for very long tracks.

On iPhone and iPad, Settings also links to WorkoutGPX, which turns Apple Health workouts into GPX files for GPX Explore.

Two editing choices live in the edit bar’s line menu (and on the Mac in the Track menu), not in Settings, and are remembered:

  • How lines are drawn: Straight Lines, or Follow Paths and Roads for Walking, Cycling or Driving. See Follow paths and roads.
  • Look Up Elevation for New Points: on by default. Turn it off and drawn points have no elevation until you choose Replace Elevation, and nothing goes to the elevation server unless you ask for it that way.

The chart’s series is remembered too, for the next file that has it.
